Leather's Hole Cave

Leather’s Hole is a bone cave located on the Great Tor to the east of Oxwich Bay on Penmaen Burrows. Access to this cave is from above down a difficult path between the two peaks of the Tor. The route should not be attempted without using appropriate equipment. The cave goes deep into the Tor and has a number of passages and rooms.

Leather’s Hole was excavated during the nineteenth century despite the difficulties and dangers involved and some interesting remains were discovered. Mammoth and rhinoceros bones were found along with wolf and hyena bones suggesting that the larger animals were dragged in by the smaller predators.
